VIDEO | BEHIND THE SCENES OF A BOUDOIR SESSION
EVER WONDER WHAT A BOUDOIR SESSION IS LIKE? WATCH THIS VIDEO...
Here at the Life As Fine Art boudoir photography studio in Red Bank, NJ, we have some pretty amazing client stories. While it may seem like everyone is coming for pretty or sexy boudoir pictures, there is almost always a pretty profound underlying reason.
During my phone consultations, with new clients, I usually will ask them...
"So what's inspiring you to do a session?" I don't necessarily want to know their stated reason or outcome as much as I do their emotional motivation.
Often, this goes beyond the "gift for him".
Jewell is someone I have known for many years, and for obvious reasons is a photographer's dream client to photograph.
When Jewell told me she would like to do a boudoir photo shoot with me, I could tell that her desire was more than just creating a lovely boudoir album for her wedding anniversary. This was about a cathartic experience for her self, and reclaiming a piece of her that was lost for some time.
She traveled to me from out of town and we shot over the course of TWO days.
Our first day focused on her boudoir photo session, which would serve as a sensual reminder that she is in fact, one of the most spectacular women. The session would reacquaint her, after a difficult year, with pieces of herself long forgotten. We take our time here, remind people about their many positive attributes and celebrate them ALLLLL day long through art.
This is what a session is about -- far beyond just the album.
The second day, we designed a Dreamworld photo shoot, one of my signature offerings which I take on a few per year. Her desire to do this session, and the concept itself was was very symbolic for her. It was about a personal rebirth, overcoming some major personal hurdles, and connecting past, present and future visually. Conceptualizing the emotions into an aesthetic is how we make art together. I will share more about Dreamworld portraits in a future post.
The resulting portrait has deep visual metaphors that are endearing and significant to us both. I will share some of that in a future blog post... It is simply so beautiful to understand the story behind the imagery.
So you may wonder how we got Jewell to appear on film. This was quit easy. She is such an amazing and open person... And also, Jewell is a professional photographer, among many other things. Financial advisor, Mother of Three, and Organic Farmer are just a few of hr other roles.
Understanding how important it is to help clients see what a session is like, she volunteered to allow us to videotape a day in her life. She is a stunner and a beautiful soul, too.
I filmed this with the help of my Life As Fine Video tam Neil Van Niekerk and Erik Colonese, both acclaimed wedding photographers and excellent corporate cinematographers located in New Jersey. As longtime friends and colleagues, we have collaborated on many projects together for events, commercial clients, and promotional videos. This video of Jewell was the outcome of one of those fruitful collaborations. (Future blog post will share behind the scenes filming this video!)
Though this has been hiding in the coffers since early 2016, I am happy to finally share this behind the scenes story -- both timeless and emotionally significant in its nature.
